Horror awaits in the other world

If you are looking for an action game that is made up of your worst nightmares, Silent Hill: Downpour is definitely the one for you. This horror game will take you on the other side of the world, one that is plagued by deadliest and ugliest monsters that only a nightmare can conjure. However, these monsters are not the only ones you need to worry about because Silent Hill: Downpour is a game filled with quests, puzzles, and combat.

Switching between two worlds

The game will introduce you to its protagonist, Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner at Ryall State Prison. In a sudden and unfortunate turn of events, the prison bus transporting Murphy crashes, and it all goes downhill from there. All of the bus’ passengers are killed in the accident. Meanwhile, Murphy finds himself walking the eerie roads of the town Silent Hill. The game alters between two worlds: that of the living and the Other World that is plagued with the scariest and creepiest-looking monsters. Players will have to complete missions and quests in between their exploration of the two worlds in an effort to find an escape.

What lies beneath the fog

Inevitably, combat comes in the gameplay because the monsters you will come across with are not just there for display. Players will have to ward them off using melee combat tactics. This can get a little frustrating because Murphy’s weapons can be anything that he comes across with. It can be a chair, a broom, a random wooden stick, or a small rock. This means that you will not have the assurance of having a sturdy and permanent weapon of choice because they will all break after a few hits. How you are going to defend yourself will entirely rely on your own skills and strategies?

As for the puzzles and side quests, the game will slowly introduce you to Silent Hill’s history as well as Murphy’s past. World and character building are given as glimpses during investigations and exploration. The small town that is now terrorized by evil is implied to once be a bustling place full of life. Meanwhile, what seems to be a practice of injustice with Murphy’s criminal charges is also slowly revealed. Most quests are extras and not at all required to accomplish, but getting them done rewards you with useful items and bonus points.

In the face of fear

Silent Hill: Downpour may have similar elements with the past Silent Hill games, but its own twists in its gameplay make it seem like you are treading on an entirely different haunted town. The monsters are terrifying, and the whole set gives you a lingering feeling of dread. The combat may be a little stiff, but if all you need is a good scare, Silent Hill: Downpour will not do you wrong.
